It is with a somewhat heavy heart that I need to give you some sad news…
I have decided after much thought and soul searching that the time has come for me to bring Ethereal Tales to an end. As many of you will know times are hard for small press publications and the printed word in general and although I never expected to make much profit with the zine I did hope that in time it would at least pay for itself...this has not happened however. Added to this the fact that my printers although they have given me good service are heading to the end of their lives, I don't think they will last much longer and I simply can't justify the expense of replacing them just to produce the zine.
I have also never been happy with having to reject contributors work. ‘But that's your job as an editor’ I hear you cry, true though it may be I have never enjoyed doing it and it gets harder each time. The production of the zine is stressful too, and although I get pleasure from seeing the finished product and hearing that people like it the stress is beginning to much out weigh the rewards. I have various projects which I am working on and at the end of the day I know that something has to give, and unfortunately it is Ethereal Tales that has to go.
It has been a pleasure to 'meet' so many lovely people whilst producing the zine and I would like to thank all those who have been a part of it, whether by entrusting me with their creative work or by buying and reading the zine. So a big thank you to all of you, you’ve been great!
Issue Twelve will be the final issue of Ethereal Tales. I will only be accepting submissions from past contributors, the theme will be ‘endings’ and I will be sending out further details regarding word count etc soon. I won’t be able to include everyone who has been involved in the past, but I hope it will be a fitting end for Ethereal Tales from its extended 'family'.
